Since we all know the general details of WoW Cataclysm, there is no doubt that the time before any expansion is usually a very strange one, you're not sure if its worth raiding or even if it's worth playing until the expansion comes out, because everything becomes pretty much reset. The preparations can be devided into five parts:
1) Make sure to get at least 20 solid members in your guild and recruit new friends
As we all know that leveling is very important, of course i'm sure many of you have at least one level 80. For starters, if you do not have a toon at level 80 yet, you will really want a toon at max level before Cataclysm comes out. As it is very clear to us, guild leveling will take the most XP from the top 20 contributors only. This is good in that even smaller guilds can outrank the biggest guilds on the server, just make sure that you have at least 20 hardcore guild members who will consistently play a lot and contribute to your guild experience and help you with your guild powerleveling. The time before an expansion is always the best time to recruit some new friends into the game. You can spend all your time powerleveling them and they can be an equal to you once the expansion arrives. As we all know, friends are among the biggest assets you can have in WoW, both for maximizing your effectiveness in game and in maximizing the fun.
2)Soak in the 'old world' and practice the old battlegrounds as much as possible
We all know that with the release of the cataclysm expansion, the familiar things we have come to love all the time will no longer be around, the landscape which we have all spent days getting to know will disappear, if need be, let's make one more alt, get a new friend and level our way through the original world of warcraft for one last time slowly but surely. With the arrival of rated battlegrounds in World of warcraft Cataclysm, it will be a great source of 'arena points' to become top quality gear. However, you should be warned that many guilds will join these battlegrounds together and having strats/coordination/pots and whatever else technique to get an edge over the competition. It is a good time to go back with your PVP team to these battlegrounds and master each person's role in the battleground.
3)Tying up loose ends
As we prepare for Cataclysm, I suggest you to tying up loose ends which means getting the things done that have been on our back burners anyway. Once the new expansion comes out, we will be busy leveling to 85, playing with the new races and race combinations and experiencing new content, which will leave much of the content elsewhere even further in the background.
To tying up loose ends, we can do from the following three aspects: leveling, attaining tangible items and attain intangible items.
4)Max out your professions
This is the especiallly important thing in this WoW Cataclysm expansion when professions are being made more useful than before. Reforging will be very popular and the ability to male money can get you rich with the right preparation, so make sure you have it at max level before the expansion hits.
5)Cover the basics
Make sure to prepare everything before the expansion, this means: build up enough money so that you can buy all the new stuff you want once the expansion arrives, get that flying mount as it will be more useful than ever, master your proficiencies with all weapons, reformat your computer if necessary, clear bank space, have your quest log full of completed quests so that when the expansion hits you can get an instant boost and save one week of annual leave for the day WoW Cataclysm is released.
Your plan is going to vary of course, but I would start to consider your options now on how you want to progress once World of warcraft Cataclysm comes out. By planning and working toward these goals now, you have the real chance of meeting all of them by the time the expansion comes out.
